My Succulent Garden

Succulents are the perfect plants for our Southern California heat. When the temps reach 100 plus degrees, they are one of the few plants still standing. I recently sent a bunch of succulent clippings to Maggie over at Gussy Sews. I hope she’s ready; I went a little nuts with the clippers. While in my garden, I thought it would be nice to snap a few pictures of my favorites and share them with you. I don’t know all of the names, but I love them all!

I tried for several summers to grow strawberries in this pot, but they always cooked. The succulents thrive in here!

This used to be home to my vegetable garden, but when it got too shady I planted a succulent garden instead.

Some of my favorite “color bowls”.

This is my favorite pot. It’s a super-heavy, rusty cast iron kettle – LOVE!

The one’s shaped like flowers are some of my faves!

A little cactus/succulent medley.

What’s going on in your garden? I’d love to hear all about it!

  1. I love the ones shaped like a flower. Have you seen the ones that are worked into frames to be "living art?" One couple in No. Cali, incorporates them into outdoor tables, etc. I saw it in Better Homes & Gardens. Also...a succulent ball that hangs outside...ingenious!

  2. oh my gosh. i love succulents, but i don't think they love me. or maybe i don't have the right climate for them in pa? these are so fabulous!

  3. Succulents thrive on neglect.:) They don't like to be watered very often and the soil must be well-drained. Thanks for stopping's nice to meet you!

  4. I've seen them too. i saw a an article recently where the recycled a pallette, planted succulents in the cracks between the boards and then used it as a table or wall hanging.
    @my life is a mosaic...

  5. oh my -- do you know i'm drooling over here? i love your garden!!!!!

    {and i'm really excited to see what you've sent me in the mail ~ thank you, friend!}
